“For me it’s very personal. This is a basic constitutional right. In the end it comes down to my ability to defend myself.”

No truer words from grassroots activist turned Florida U.S. Congress candidate, Rebekah Johnson Bydlak, who recently earned two very important endorsements- Highest rating for a non-elected official from the NRA Political Victory Fund and a endorsement from the National Gun Rights Association. And the impressive list of endorsements continue: Tea Party Patriots Citizens Fund and even modern gun rights movement pioneer, former Representative Ron Paul. Bydlak is seeking a seat in Florida’s 1st Congressional District.

In addition to being a incredible, gun rights loving, liberty minded Republican, Bydlak is also set to make history. At just 26 years old, if she wins her primary this Tuesday, she will inevitably be the youngest Congresswoman in America.

But don’t let her age deter you. This millennial badass has been fighting for our second amendment rights longer than most in Congress today. As if I couldn’t be more smitten, Bydlak shared with me during an exclusive interview with Bearing Arms, that she too was a campus carry activist. In 2010, when liberal universities across Florida passed resolutions expressing their disdain for a campus carry bill currently in the works in the legislature, Rebekah rallied students on her campus to stop such a resolution. So in a sea of universities that ultimately passed an anti-campus carry resolution, the University of West Florida was the only voice of reason.

Unfortunately, the campus carry portion of the gun rights bill ultimately was taken out, and my group, Students for Concealed Carry continue fight to get it passed in Florida today, but the message is clear, Bydlak walks the talk.

A liberty fighter always seems to attract other liberty fighters as well, even those who are already in Congress. Michigan Representative Justin Amash has endorsed Bydlak. Congressman Amash recently fought a battle to prevent Democrats and some establishment Republicans in Congress from a calculated measure take away our rights as law abiding citizens post the Orlando Pulse Night club massacre.

Bydlak finished the interview with this to say. Something that we need to remember from time to time:

“There is a huge role for constitutionalists and liberty republicans because we have never been one to just take what leadership says at face value or go along with the crowd. They claim to stand for the same values that we hold and sometimes they do. But they won’t always. But that’s why we need people to hold their feet to the fire.

Indeed we do.
