A 24-year-old man and his wife were sleeping in their Washington home when a 51-year-old man broke in. The homeowner called the police and grabbed his gun while waiting for authorities to arrive. When the homeowner saw the suspect charging toward him, however, he shot the intruder and held him at gunpoint until police arrived.

Retired police officer Brad Reynolds told KING 5 News the incident “proves the point that we need guns.” Reynolds, who runs the neighborhood watch group, says he’s always armed.
