Two wounded in shooting at naval base in Tennessee

Didn’t we just do this?

A Navy recruiter who had been relieved of duty at a Tennessee naval base Thursday afternoon opened fire outside the facility, injuring two soldiers and prompting a brief lockdown, MyFoxMemphis reported.

The suspect, who was not immediately identified, was relieved of duty at the Millington base, which is located in a Memphis suburb, the report said. The shooting occurred inside the National Guard Armory just outside the base after the suspect retrieved a small handgun from his car, local police told the station. He was promptly tackled by two soldiers and taken into custody by the Millington Police Department.

One of the injured was shot in the foot and the other was shot in the leg before they took the shooter down. Fortunately neither wound was life-threatening and it sounds like both solders will probably make a full recovery.

I’m curious as to why the sailor was relieved of duty, thought based on his actions afterward, I’d guess that his mental health had something to do with it.
