Remington just landed a $50 million contract to build R4 carbines for the Philippine military, but that contract is just enough to get the Ilion, NY home of Remington part of the way though 2014. After that, what comes next?

If a Georgia politician is correct, Remington’s next move make be a move, as they may be considering relocating from New York to the Peach State:

A major firearms manufacturer is considering Georgia for a possible relocation and state Sen. Burt Jones wants to bring it to Butts County or the surrounding area.

Jones, R-Jackson, said that while Beretta has narrowed its focus to two Georgia locations — not in Butts County — the Remington Arms Company is considering relocating from New York, where its Ilion Firearms Plant and Custom Shop is located. He said state officials are working to try to bring the plant to Georgia and he’s hoping to land it in his district, possibly his home county.

From a historical perspective if would be a tragedy for the Remington facility in Illion to close, as it the oldest company in the United States which still makes its original product, and has been in business at that location since 1816.

But what else is the company to do?

New York has proven to be extremely hostile to the gun industry in particular and human rights in general, and it would be morally irresponsible for the company to stay in a state where the regime denies their workers a viable right to self defense, which the NY SAFE Act certainly does.
