Reminding You That The Army Times Is Mainstream Media And Knows Nothing About Guns

In an article where the Army Times talks about the roll-out of the M4A1 carbine long used by special operations forces to the rest of the military, the reporter attempts to explain “burst fire.”

An M4 in burst mode fires about eight rounds per minute, or about one round every six seconds.

Eight whole rounds per minute?

I’m glad to see that our technology has improved so much since 1770 that we can get that extra shot or two off per minute with the M4.

Joe Gould’s grasp of the advantages and limitations of fully-automatic mode of the M4A1 is even more impressive.

In automatic mode, the M4A1 could fire as many as 700 rounds per minute, an unlikely amount, as soldiers carry far less ammo on missions.

Clearly, this is Pulitzer material.
