TIME & DISTANCE: A Question of Long Range Ethics

Situation

You are hunting elk in the mountains, and finally come across a cow elk that the guide says is worth taking. The rangefinder shows the distance is 875 yards, and you have a broadside shot. Your quarry is on a mountainside two small canyons away, and it is 6:30 PM. Even with perfect shot placement, you won’t get to where the elk went down until well after dark.
