Grandstanding Board of Supervisors In PA Pathetically Addresses "Gun Violence"

The Solebury Township, Pennsylvania Board of Supervisors decided to address “gun violence” in their area by passing gun control legislation at the local area. Their hope? That other local governments would do the same thing, forcing politicians at the state and federal levels to address gun control on a larger scale.

“Since we, as supervisors are charged with the health, welfare, and safety of our residents, the resolution functions as a petition to higher legislative officials to address the issue of gun violence,” said Chairwoman Helen Tai, who introduced the proposal.

Under the resolution, the Solebury Township’s Board wants the Pennsylvania legislature – and Congress – to enact the following legislation:

Preventing people known and suspected terrorists, those convicted of violent hate crimes and those with a history of domestic abuse from legally buying guns,

This is the biggest no-brainer I have ever read. No one in their right mind wants a suspected terrorist to have a gun. Just because us pro-gun people want to protect our rights doesn’t mean that we want terrorists to have firearms so they can hurt us.

Ensuring that background checks are required on all gun sales, including online and at gun shows. In Pennsylvania, preserve the provisions of the Pennsylvania Instant Background Check System (PICS) which provides instant access to background records,

Can someone please tell me when they have EVER bought a gun that didn’t require a background check? Every gun I’ve ever purchased or had transferred to me required me to have a background check. And I was in the biggest anti-gun capital of the world: California.

Funding research into the effects of gun violence and gun safety,

This is great in theory. Who is going to do this? The Brady Campaign? Everytown for Gun Safety? Of course it’ll probably be an anti-gun group so that they can exaggerate the numbers to fit their narrative.

Requiring trigger locks on all firearms in homes where children are present,

This Board is seriously out of touch. Responsible gun owners always follow the four basic rules of gun safety, the two most important ones being A) to teach kids to never, ever touch a gun and B) to lock their guns away from children. People who are buying guns legally already follow gun laws and gun safety. Something like this is so trivial. Plus, how the heck would the government implement that? By illegal search and seizure?

Banning access to assault-style rifles,

These people probably don’t even know what an assault-style rifle is. My guess? They probably think the AR in AR-15 stands for assault rifle, not Armalite.

Reducing the number of permissible cartridges in a clip or magazine

Why? So law-abiding citizens can’t protect themselves? Remember: criminals are just that…criminals. They don’t care about laws. They don’t follow laws. If they did, they wouldn’t be criminals.

Seriously, before politicians start spewing anti-gun rhetoric out of their mouth, they need to do some research and not just feed off what groups like the Brady Campaign feed them. It would keep them from looking like total idiots.

Best part of this whole story? They sent their proposal to President Obama (D), PA Governor Tom Wolf (D), Senators Robert Casey (D) and Patrick Toomey (R), Congressman Michael Fitzpatrick (R), State Senator Charles McIllhinney (R) and State Representative Scott Petri (R).

Sounds like local politicians thinking they’re more important than they actually are.
