NRA National Firearm Museum Open to Public This Independence Day

America’s birthday tomorrow will mark two hundred thirty seven years since the thirteen colonies agreed to split from Great Britain. Our Founding Fathers adopted the Declaration of Independence on that July day in 1776, and broke free of the tyrannical British Empire. Together, the colonies formed a new nation—the United States of America.

But our freedom hasn’t always been guaranteed. Firearms played a crucial role in the American Revolution and War of 1812, assisting the militia and eventually allowing the country to expand and become a superpower.

In order to preserve our rich history, the NRA National Firearms Museum in Fairfax, Virginia has strived to teach visitors how six hundred years of firearm history shaped America through more than 2,700 firearms showcased in 15 galleries. Inside the gallery attendants can witness history come alive through dioramas and interpretive displays.

“What better way to celebrate the 4th of July than stopping by the National Firearms Museum,” said Museum Director Jim Supica. “Our exhibits tell the story of America through firearms, from the day our forefathers proclaimed they would no longer be ruled by the King of England to the battles of our Armed Forces in the 21st century.”
