According to the National Rifle Association’s Institute for Legislative Action (NRA-ILA), the California legislature is poised to ban semi-automatic (self-loading) rifles with detachable magazines entirely:

Senate Bill 374 (Steinberg) would expand the definition of “Assault Weapons” to include ALL semi-auto rifles that accept a detachable magazine.  SB374 would ban on the sale and possession of ALL semi-Auto rifles and require registration to retain legal possession in the future.

The proposed ban would include those rifles commonly used for big-game hunting (Browning BAR, Remington 750), small game hunting (Savage 64, Remington 597), training (Ruger 10/22, Marlin 795), and shooting sports competitions, and hundreds of thousands, if not millions of other firearms.

This bill does not simply target so-called “assault weapons,” but seems to be an attempt to remove the single most popular type of firearms action made in the United States from the state. The only exceptions would seem to be tube-fed and clip-fed rifles not already banned as “assault weapons” under California’s absurdly restrictive laws.

SB 374 is part of a package of laws that seem designed more towards harassing law-abiding citizens into giving up their Constitutional rights than they to reduce criminal behavior.

If you’re the last sane person to leave this crazy state, remember to shut the door behind you.
