Members of Open Carry Texas Charged with disorderly conduct

Three members of Open Carry Texas were charged with disorderly conduct last Saturday by the San Antonio Police Department for open carrying rifles outside a San Antonio Starbucks Coffee location.

What makes the non-custodial-arrests interesting is that the arresting officer only carried out the arrest when the open carriers pointed out to the officer that he should be asking to see the serial number of his rifle if he didn’t have any reason to suspect that it was stolen.

All three open carriers were unfailingly polite through the exchange, and the disorderly conduct charges appear to amount to very little more than “contempt of cop,” as a video of the event captured by the Open Carry Texas members and posted on YouTube clearly shows.

Open carry is controversial even among shooters, as it tends to alienate the general public more than it informs them of their constitutional rights.
