An active-duty reader sent in this photo taken of his seven-year-old daughter manning a M249 Squad Automatic Weapon this morning, along with this explanation.

…today at Battalion Org day, my 7-year-old walked up to a M249, and the Soldier asked if she wanted to hold it. Because she was taught proper gun safety, the first thing she asked was, “Is it on safe and clear.”

Dad’s just a little bit proud of his little Princess, and he has every right to be.
