Republican Sen. Randal H. “Rand” Paul told Hannity, Murthy was a political activist, whose public statements and tweets leave no doubt that the office will become an political arm of the White House–especially in president’s war on gun rights.

Paul said he and other Senate conservatives asked Majority Leader Harry Reid (D-Nev.) to withdrawn the nomination.

“We’ll do what we can to filibuster, but you realize that last year Harry Reid destroyed the filibuster,” he said.

The senator, who still sees patients as an eye surgeon, said his plan is to object to any unanimous consent agreement or the waiver of any rule with respect to the nomination Murthy.

The nomination cleared the committee phase and is now awaiting action on the Senate floor. Capitol Hill conservatives are hoping to stop the nomination that the administration wants confirmed before the March 20 Doctors for America Leadership Conference.
