Special operations vets: We support Benghazi inquest

Leading special operations veterans’ group spoke exclusively with Guns & Patriots about the announcement of select committee investigation into the Benghazi massacre, a move that they said may expose a White House guilty of treason.

“We are thrilled about the investigation,” said Larry Ward, political director for Special Operations Speaks PAC, a group of special oerations veterans, who have been requesting a select committee to investigate the Sept. 11, 2012 terror attack that left four Americans killed including Ambassador John Christopher Stevens, from the onset. “We waited close to two years.  Now is when the real work begins.”

S.O.S. is focused on the composition of the select committee and ensuring that they have the proper tools at their disposal, he said. “We want to make sure the committee has ample time and resources and the requisite clearances and subpoena power.”

During congressional hearings last week, Republicans presented evidence that they said shows a White House embroiled in a politically motivated cover-up of the terror attack that happened just six weeks out from Election Day.

Ward said this was the final impetus that prompted Speaker of the House John A. Boehner (R.- Ohio) to call for a select committee.

A special investigation will not only reveal a politically motivated cover-up, but also a White House, as recently reported by the Citizens’ Commission on Benghazi, that may have switched sides in the War on Terror, he said.

“We believe that the cover-up goes deeper than the election, the U.S. may have armed al Qaeda with $500 million worth of arms. If true, that is treason, plain and simple.”

Nineteen months after the Benghazi massacre, the White House was court ordered to produce documents after Judicial Watch, the Washington-based government watchdog, filed a freedom of information request.

At their website, Judicial Watch said it took close to two years of litigation to capture the documents which were omitted from the congressional investigation; raising questions of obstruction.

The Obama administration have been dodging the truth from the beginning; they have repeatedly and abjectly failed to be honest with the American people, said Ward.  “Liars do what liars do – lie.  Obama and his spin factory have lost all credibility.”

As early as Nov. 17, 2012, S.O.S. held a press conference calling for a special prosecutor or select committee on Benghazi at the House Triangle with Rep. Louie Gohmert (R.- Texas), he said.

In April 2013 S.O.S. collected more than 700 signatures from former special operations veterans from all branches of the military demanding that the President Barack Obama’s administration answer on Benghazi, he said. “We delivered that letter to every member of Congress.”

On July 25, S.O.S. brought the Benghazi massacre and cover-up to television screens, front pages, and blogs worldwide with the record-setting “Scroll-Out” on the steps of the Capitol, he said.

“We rolled out a 4-foot x 60-foot scroll – the largest petition in the history of Congress – with  the names of nearly a thousand veterans on a petition demanding a select committee to fully investigate the Benghazi massacre and cover-up.”

S.O.S. then hosted the Oct. 13 Million Veterans March at the WWII Memorial in Washington and renewed their push for answers, said Ward.  “We threw some barricades at the White House.”

He said it is unclear whether the White House will cooperate with the select committee investigation, however by law they must cooperate.

White House spokesperson Jay Carney said during a press briefing on Monday that they would cooperate with legitimate oversight, but accused Republicans of committing to a highly partisan exercise.

The executive branch must be held accountable for their actions, said Ward, who is also the president of Political Media, Inc., a political advertising and public relations firm for conservative causes and candidates.

“If the White House refuses to cooperate with the people’s House and Attorney General Eric H. Holder Jr.,  refuses to appoint a special prosecutor to hold the executive branch accountable for that refusal, then the appropriate response and the only recourse for the House of Representatives is to proceed with impeaching the president and the appointees who refuse to cooperate.”

Attempts by the Obama administration, as well as the media, to ignore, obstruct or negate facts in the Benghazi massacre is appalling, he said. “I am sure that the detractors would not say it was ‘old news’ had it been a member of their family.”

When called to testify before Congress, former secretary of state Hillary Clinton having a blasé attitude, exemplified when she asked senators: ‘What difference does it make?’ while being questioned, he said. “Do you imagine Hillary would have said that had Chelsea Clinton been the Ambassador of Libya instead of Ambassador Stevens?”

S.O.S. has been relentlessly and fearlessly pursuing the truth in Benghazi taking on both Republicans and Democrats that stood in the way, said Ward.

“We even put billboards in Speaker Boehner’s home district to urge him to move on the select committee.  We are glad he finally sees the light and is ready for action.”

This is just the beginning of a long path to the truth, but he said S.O.S. will not give up.  “We will continue to keep the heat on everyone who stands in the way of justice.”
