Florida Burglar Gets Lead For Breakfast

A burglar in Orange County, Florida got more than he expected when he invaded an occupied home shortly before 6:00 AM Friday morning, and he may have left with a souvenir, in the form of a bullet or two:

The homeowner told deputies that he confronted the burglar just before 6 a.m. in his home on Fort Thomas Way while his wife and three children were inside the home.

The victim shot at the suspect and the suspect fled the scene, according to deputies.

Deputies say they believe the suspect may have been hit by the victim’s gunfire.

I don’t presume to know why Orange County deputies are convinced that the suspects are shot, but when my friends in law enforcement make a similar observation, it could mean almost anything. It could be the suspect moving or shouting as if he’s been hit, or it could be something much more concrete in nature, such as significant blood evidence left at the scene.

The burglary appears to be a crime of opportunity. The family left the garage door open, and the door inside the garage to the home unlocked.

I strongly suspect that they won’t make that mistake again any time soon.

The burglar and his accomplice are still on the run.
