Citizen Chases Down, Shoots, Captures Bank Robber

A Pennsylvania gun owner was at the right place at the right time this morning, and helped put a bad guy in jail.

A suspect in a Hatboro bank robbery was chased down and shot by a witness before being taken into custody Wednesday morning, police said.

The robbery happened about 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at the TD Bank in the 200 block of South York Road, at Lehman Avenue, in the borough.

A suspect, described by authorities as a black male wearing a black hat and black clothing, entered the bank and left with an undisclosed amount of money.

The suspect ran from the bank, during which time a dye pack exploded. A witness to the robbery chased the suspect and shot him in the parking lot of the Station Park Business Center, an industrial park off Warminster Road and near a SEPTA railroad crossing.

I can only imagine the surprise on the bank robber’s face when the dye pack exploded, which had to turn to horror when he saw the witness draw a weapon and give chase.

The citizen who gave chase shot the suspect in the arm without injuring anyone else, but we would strong suggest not chasing or firing a weapon at a fleeing suspect in most circumstances, as it could very well wind up with the citizen going to jail along with the bank robber.

At this time there is no word on whether or not the citizen who chased and shot the robber will face charges in this incident.

The bank that was targeted by the robber has been robbed 4 times in less than three years.
