Gun Owner Investigated After Killing Armed Robber At Connecticut Espresso Cafe

A customer at a Waterbury, CT espresso bar pulled a registered handgun and shot an armed robber that was threatening both staff and customers.

Police received reports of gunfire at Cafe Azzurri at 500 Bank Street at about 2:30 a.m. Responding officers found a man with at least one gunshot wound at the cafe and pronounced him dead at the scene.

Witnesses told police that the would-be robber had come into the cafe wielding a gun and tried to steal from the business and the customers, police said.

However, a patron carrying a legally registered handgun confronted the suspect and fired his gun at least once, fatally shooting the man.

While law enforcement agencies in most sane parts of the nation would be thanking the customer for stopping the criminal and saving lives after a preliminary investigation, the Waterbury Police and District Attorney’s Office are sweating the life-saving, crime-stopping gun owner, even though he is cooperating with authorities.
