A twisted killer with a hit list who streamed parts of his killing spree on social media is now dead after coming up short in a shootout with an Oklahoma state trooper.

A massive manhunt for a suspect in a string of violent crimes, including the killing of two relatives, the shooting of two police officers and multiple carjackings, ended Sunday night in a police chase and shootout that left the man dead in Oklahoma.

Michael Dale Vance, Jr., 38, was shot and killed by an Oklahoma state trooper near Leedey in the western part of the state, authorities said. Vance had shot and wounded a Dewey County officer and fled in a car earlier in the day, according to U.S. Marshals Service spokesman Dave Turk said.

Authorities said the Dewey officer suffered non-life threatening injuries, according to The Oklahoman. Police believe he was living in a makeshift camp site he had set up near Hammon.

Vance wounded two police officers in a shootout eight days ago and then took to social media to taunt law enforcement before killing two of his relatives and unsuccessfully attempting to decapitate one of them. He then carried out a series of carjackings and eluded police for more than a week before being discovered by a small town police officer yesterday and engaging him in a shootout before escaping again.

Authorities were then tipped by a farmer who saw Vance’s campsite in a field, leading to a third shootout with police, in which Vance’s luck ran out.

All three officers injured by Vance should survive their wounds.
