Pipeline Protestor Sophia Wilansky Was NOT Injured By A Concussion Grenade

It’s frankly stunning that after Dakota Access Pipeline protestor Sophia Wilansky had one of her arms destroyed by an explosive device that mainstream media outlets with considerable resources—ABC, CBS, CNN, Fox News, NBC, New York Times, Washington Post, etc—didn’t immediately try to discover which side was telling the truth.

According to the Morton County Sheriff’s Officer (MCSO) and the North Dakota Highway Patrol:

We are aware of the information about the woman on social media who has claimed she sustained injuries to her arm due to law enforcement tactics. The injuries sustained are inconsistent with any resources utilized by law enforcement and are not a direct result of any tools or weapons used by law enforcement.” – Lt. Tom Iverson, ND Highway Patrol. Below is a picture of a propane tank found on the bridge following an explosion early Monday morning. Officers witnessed protesters rolling the cylinder on the bridge, saw the explosion and then witnessed protesters running on the bridge to carry a woman from the scene.

Protesters using improvised explosive devices caused an explosion on the Backwater Bridge around 3:00 a.m. Monday morning. Law enforcement witnessed protesters rolling cylinders on the bridge and witnessed an explosion, shortly after they saw several protesters run to that area of the bridge and carried a woman off the bridge. Once the scene was clear, investigators examined the bridge and found one pound coleman propane tanks that were rigged to explode on the bridge.

There were actually several 1-pound propane canisters recovered from the site of the explosion by the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, and Firearms (ATF). You’ll note that the more severely damaged of the two canisters, shown in two different angles in the second and third photos above, seem to have coagulated blood and tissue upon them.

If testing does confirm that the material on the propane cylinder is blood and tissue, then there is clearly enough to get a DNA match to the person who left that genetic material behind.

While the ATF was cataloging the apparent components of a faulty improvised explosive device (IED, a kind of bomb) that domestic terrorists/protestors attempted to deploy against police lines, agents with the FBI’s Joint Terrorism Task Force (JTTF)  went to the hospital to acquire Sophia Wilansky’s clothes, and they confiscated it into evidence.

A reasonable person would be forced to ask themselves a simple question: “Why would the FBI and ATF focus like a laser on the propane canisters and Sophia Wilansky, if there is plausible evidence that Wilansky was so grievously injured by a concussion grenade?”

The answer is glaringly obvious:  both the ATF and FBI know precisely what less-lethal crowd-control munitions MCSO and NDHP have to deploy, and these federal agencies tasked with the investigation know that nothing that law enforcement agencies have could cause plausibly cause Sophia Wilansky’s injuries.

True “concussion grenades” are incredibly rare. The Mk3A2 is the last concussion grenade issued to the U.S. military. It uses a large (half-pound) TNT charge, and was designed to be thrown into hardened enemy fortifications, such as bunkers. They’re rarely used today because modern building materials would not contain the blast very well, and could kill our own troops.  According to an active duty Army combat engineer friend, he’s never seen them issued to combat units deployed overseas, and agrees with me that they’ve never been issued to domestic law enforcement. They’re far too dangerous.

Let’s make this 100% perfectly clear. If Sophia Wilansky had a concussion grenade go off on her arm and she and her fellow protestors claim, she would not be in a hospital. The larger pieces they would able to find of her scattered across North Dakota wouldn’t fill a body bag.

So, if real concussion grenades are off the table—and they clearly are, because the cops and even the military don’t use them anymore—are there other options? Many people have brought up the possibility of a flash-bang.

Flash-bangs are not concussion grenades. They are specifically designed to make a large amount of light and a deafening boom, and they are used by law enforcement to disorient suspects in enclosed placed by both law enforcement and military forces where there is reason to believe that non-combatants/innocent victims are in the building in question.

They’re also Hell on your buddies attempting to use the bathroom in peace.

But, for the sake of argument, what happens if a flash-bang goes off on a human being’s body? If the case of someone wearing heavy winter clothing like Sophia Wilansky, they’ll possible have burned clothing, and maybe burned skin. They’re not going to have shattered bones, and are not going to have large chunks of flesh blown of their body, which are the wounded claimed by Sophia Wilansky.

Her injuries are not consistent with any devices deployed by the Morton County Sheriff’s Officer (MCSO) or the North Dakota Highway Patrol, which is why the ATF and FBI have homed in on Sophia Wilansky so quickly.

She’s not just the victim of an improvised explosive device , but is also the most likely trigger-person of an IED that was apparently designed to be used against police officers in what appears to have been a domestic terrorist attack targeting law enforcement officers by environmental extremists that are part of the militant  “Red Warrior Camp” the Standing Rock Sioux Tribal Council asked to leave several weeks ago.
