Constitutional Carry Bill Inexplicably Withdrawn In KY Senate

The National Rifle Association’s Institute for Legislative Action (NRA-ILA) has sent out an alert that Senate Bill 7, Kentucky’s “Constitutional Carry” bill that was expected to have the support of at least 75% of state senators, has inexplicably been pulled from consideration.

Senate Bill 7 would allow any law-abiding individual who can legally possess a firearm to carry a handgun for self-defense in Kentucky without having to obtain a permit to do so.  This bill recognizes a law-abiding adult’s unconditional Right to Keep and Bear Arms for self-defense in the manner he or she chooses.  Self-defense situations are difficult, if not impossible, to anticipate.  Accordingly, a law-abiding adult’s right to defend himself or herself in such situations should not be conditioned by government-mandated time delays and taxes.  Additionally, Senate Bill 7 would keep the current permitting system in place so individuals who obtain a permit could still enjoy the reciprocity agreements that Kentucky has with other states.

Kentucky residents are encouraged to contact your state senators and have SB 7 added back to the legislative schedule for a hearing.

It’s infuriating when a piece of  legislation this popular can be pigeonholed by someone in the Senate Veterans, Military Affairs, & Public Protection Committee, when it is all but assured of passing if it passes out of committee and could be voted upon by the full Senate.

Make your voices heard, folks!
