Will 2016 Be Chicago's Deadliest Year Ever?

Yesterday, the Chicago Tribune shared the story of one resident’s brush with an armed intruder at her home in Chicago’s West Englewood neighborhood:

A gun pointed at her head, Brianna Anderson cowered on the floor in her South Side home. Minutes earlier, two people had come crashing through her family’s front door, one of them armed.

Hearing the front door squeak, the gunman left Anderson’s side, rushed into the living room and suddenly opened fire, Anderson said.

Then, she said, more and more gun blasts erupted.

“Everything was going so fast,” said Anderson, 22, recalling that harrowing morning late last month at the family’s home in the West Englewood neighborhood. “I was just so scared. … After he shot, you hear all the shots. Then it got real quiet.”

At the door were two Englewood District police officers responding to multiple 911 calls of an armed intruder at the residence. By the time police charged in, officers found the assailant, 29-year-old Charles Smith, dead and eight residents hiding safely. Smith was armed with a .40-caliber handgun.

By November 23, 2015, there had been 2703 shootings resulting in 440 deaths in the heavily gun-controlled city, but that’s nothing. Chicago is on pace to far exceed last year’s murder rates, with January 2016’s murders double what they were in 2015.

Also interesting, according to one site on top of tracking Chicago violence, only 15 of 71 murders have been cleared. With a dismal 15.2% clearance rate, its no wonder Chicago crime continues to soar: criminals, who choose not to follow the existing gun laws, aren’t being caught, much less punished.

Of course, this fact escapes some politicians who instead choose to focus on the creation of more laws in already gun-controlled-to-death areas like Chicago… or the state of California (yes, I’m looking at you, Gavin Newsom). Worse yet, some blatantly lie like Senator Dick Durbin (D-IL) when he proclaimed, “Forty percent of… crime guns” in Chicago can be traced back to purchases at gun shows in Indiana, where no background check is required.”

This brings us to perhaps the most amusing ticker on the site. It’s sole purpose is to call out a former Senator, previous resident and community organizer Barack Obama, and the failure his Presidential “actions” on gun violence have been in the Windy City:

Some people can’t grasp the fact that criminals don’t follow laws.

Most of them seem to be part of Chicago’s government.

(Cue the mass exodus from the city)
