An Aiken, South Carolina woman shot her 50-year-old husband in the leg after he assaulted her early Tuesday morning in front of their 12-year-old daughter.

An Aiken Department of Public Safety Report said the 49-year-old victim called police after the shooting, reporting the suspect ‘hit her in the face before putting both hands around her neck and choking her in their bedroom’.

The victim told officers she pulled her .22 caliber pistol out and shot the suspect out of fear for her life, according to the report.

Investigators reported finding the firearm on top of the refrigerator.

The suspect told police his wife “came after him” during an argument over money and he pushed her against the wall to get her off him, according to the report.

He claimed she went to their bedroom, came out with the firearm and shot him, the report said.

The couple’s daughter told police she had witnessed her father choke her mother and saw her mother shoot her father, according to the report.

Officers have reported that arrest warrants were issued on the suspect both for first-degree domestic violence and unlawful conduct toward a child.

The report also confirms the woman acted in self-defense and will not be charged for shooting the suspect.

I really hate these stories about domestic abuse in front of or involving kids, and this is the second one I’ve covered this week. What I am glad to see is that these women are arming themselves and actually pulling the trigger on their abusers, however – if you are in an abusive relationship: please consider pulling the trigger on filing divorce papers before it comes to that.
