Pro-gun Republican Wins Seat in Connecticut

For the first time in 40 years, a Republican has won the Connecticut State Legislature’s 53rd House District in a special election to fill the vacated seat. Samuel Belsito is replacing Democrat Bryan Hurlburt, who recently resigned from his position to take a job with the U.S. Department of Agriculture.  This is a significant victory for conservatives and pro-gun proponents everywhere, especially in Connecticut in light of the Newtown massacre.

Gun control is a defining platform of Connecticut governor Dannell P. Malloy’s administration, who’s planning to take his drastic measures to the national level. But these gun control measures have both Republicans and Democrats upset – Belsito’s opponent Anthony Horn admitted that he would’ve voted down the gun control legislation if he won the seat.
