Police Chief Mark Kessler drew attention to the small coal-mining town of Gilberton, PA, for all the wrong reasons.
He has used his title—and police department machine guns—to promote his personal views on the Second Amendment on his YouTube channel. For that abuse of power he has been rightfully suspended.
Kessler’s suspension has now been extended indefinitely, and he anticipates being fired. The sooner he is terminated, the better it is for Second Amendment supporters.
As Matt notes at The Bang Switch, Kessler is at best a “frienemy.” He damages the protection of our Second Amendment rights by his behavior, and does us more harm than good.
We have the Founders on our side. We have the Constitution on our side. We have facts and data on our side. All we need to defeat the gun control movement are supporters of the Second Amendment who can calmly and rationally defeat the gun control movement’s emotionally-driven, logic-challenged propaganda.
What we don’t need is a foul-mouthed, inarticulate clod who reminds us of little more than Lindsey Lohan with an AK-47, who does little more than give ammunition to the gun control movement.
If Kessler really loved the Second Amendment as much as he claims, he would have already resigned. The fact that he hasn’t already strongly suggests that this is far more about his ego than our rights as citizens.
It’s past time for him to go.
