There are multiple versions of the basic Remington 870 pump shotgun, which was designed in 1951 and is
the top selling shotgun in U.S. history, with more than 10 million sold. The “Express” variation show above is representative of one of the most popular models. There are also variants designed for military, police, and home defense use.
It is not yet known which variant of the shotgun Aaron Alexis used, but the oft-repeated claim by many eyewitnesses that he used a “long gun” suggests that he probably used a full-stock variant, similar to the image shown.
