A 23-year-old Scottsville, KY man was arrested after a domestic dispute turned deadly.

Ethan Reid is accused of killing 20-year-old Kaylah Hodges, his ex-girlfriend and mother of his little girl. The two had been a couple until they ended their five year relationship last week.

Reid and Hodges had also been living together for seven months, since the birth of their daughter. But on Monday, the pair engaged in a verbal altercation that escalated when Reid pulled out a shotgun.

Hodges mother, April Riley, was in the home at the time of the shooting. She said her daughter handed the baby to her before attempting to flee the scene, and that’s when Reid shot her in the back.

“Kaylah handed me the baby and got around me and Ethan shoved me and the baby back and went after her and then I heard a ‘pop’ and when I got to the edge of the hallway I saw her fall out the front door,” April said through tears. “And that baby, that beautiful baby has no parents.”

After Reid killed Hodges, he turned the gun on himself. A nearby neighbor heard the commotion and showed up to the house, his own shotgun in hand. The neighbor hit Reid with the butt of the gun and sat on him until police arrived.

Deputies arrived on the scene around 7:30 p.m. and found Reid suffering from gunshot wounds. He was transported to a hospital and treated.

Around 10 p.m., Reid was released from the hospital and booked into the Allen County jail.

Just hours before Hodges was murdered, Reid posted to his Facebook page, apologizing to his social media friends.
