Domestic Abuser Found With a Gun...in a Classroom?!

On Tuesday night, Stamford, CT and UConn police arrested 38-year-old Steffon McDonald for an outstanding warrant for burglary and stalking. Once McDonald was placed in handcuffs, officers found a loaded .22 pistol and a knife in his waistband. The gun was reported stolen in NC.

The scariest part of the whole thing? McDonald was in court-ordered domestic violence classes when officers took him into custody.

“It was kind of scary because the guy has problems and a loaded stolen gun in his waistband,” Sgt. Robert Shawinsky told the Stamford Advocate.

McDonald was ordered by a judge to attend domestic violence classes after an incident in June.

Because of the gun, McDonald received additional charges for criminal possession of a firearm, carrying a pistol without a permit, possession of a firearm on school grounds and stealing the gun.

Instead of a $250,000 court appearance bond, the suspect was held overnight. During his arraignment on Wednesday, the judge ordered the suspect remain in custody in lieu of a $100,000 bond, which must be made in cash and without a bondsman. He made no pleas to the charges.

Multiple women have stepped forward, claiming McDonald has stalked, harassed and burglarized them.

McDonald was charged with assault, disorderly conduct and interfering with a 911 call for the June incident.

The burglary and stalking charges stem from the former girlfriend reporting McDonald let himself into her home on Feb. 14, police said. A judge last summer ordered McDonald to not have contact with the woman or possess any weapons.

The woman told police last week that she was taking a shower on Feb. 14 when she heard McDonald asking her questions about why she was home early that night, his arrest affidavit said.

After the woman told him to get out, McDonald left but returned two hours later and appeared in her bedroom, according to the affidavit. The woman said she told him to leave again, but he stayed for 20 minutes “pleading his case and said how much he loves her and misses her,” the affidavit said.
