BREAKING: Texas Governor Signs Bill Lowering License to Carry Fee

Texans now have a reason to rejoice! Governor Greg Abbott just signed Senate Bill 16, which lowers the license to carry fees.

“Texas is known for its strong Second Amendment rights laws, and I’m proud to further strengthen those rights today,” Governor Greg Abbott said. “No law abiding Texan should be priced out of the ability to exercise their Second Amendment rights. I’d like to thank Senators Nichols and Huffman, and Rep. Phil King for their work in expanding liberty in Texas.”

Previously, it cost a resident $140 to apply. That fee has been lowered to $40, making it one of the cheapest in the nation. The price to renew a license to carry dropped from $70 to $40 and 5-year renewals are now only $8.

“No one should be priced out of their right to carry a firearm for self-protection,” said Chris Cox, NRA-ILA executive director, said in a statement. “This bill makes it easier for all Texans to exercise this fundamental right. This is a great bill for Texans who will now be able to exercise their rights more easily.”

Texas went big with their bill signing ceremony.

So big that Governor Abbott signed the bill and then headed to the range.

After all, nothing screams “Texas!” like putting a few rounds through a target.
