Broadwell, Petraeus attended Oct. 27 OSS Society dinner as couple

Petraeus and Broadwell attended OSS Society Annual Dinner Oct. 27 together.

As soon as retired Army Gen. David H. Petraeus announced that President Barack Obama accepted his resignation as CIA director, citing an extramarital affair, attention turned to Paula Broadwell.

Broadwell is the author of the book “All In: The Education of General David Petraeus.” For the book, Broadwell, an Army Reserve lieutenant colonel and a West Point graduate, had unparallelled access to the general and was embedded with him as he performed his official duties.

Friends of Petraeus and his wife, Holly, noticed an awkwardness about the couple in the past few months. Mrs. Petraeus is an Obama administration official at the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau. She works in the Office of Service Member Affairs.

Although they did not sit together, the general and his biographer attended the Oct. 27 OSS Society Annual Dinner as a couple. The two mingled as a couple at the VIP reception before the dinner and as the general made his way around the Washington Ritz Carlton ballroom, Broadwell followed one pace behind.

The 2009 recipient of the society’s Donovan Award, Petraeus was one of the speakers at the dinner. This year’s recipient was Robert M. Gates, the former CIA director and secretary of defense. The award is named for William J. Donovan, the World War II founder of the Office of Strategic Services. The Central Intelligence Agency is a direct legacy of the OSS.
