The group’s National School Shield Program will include both legislative proposals for Congress and a guide for state and local officials to change their laws to allow armed guards on public school campuses.

The NRA first announced the national school shield program in December in response to the Newtown, Connecticut school massacre.

The NRA’s announcement comes a week before the Senate may vote on a package of new gun control laws, including universal background checks and a federal gun trafficking law.
