The arms every American should have

AR-15s are the top-selling rifles in the United States, year after year.

The post yesterday Five classes of firearms the Founding Fathers would not protect under the Second Amendment went over like a loud fart in church, didn’t it? We obviously need work on making our satire more obvious.

The firearms chosen for that list of five classes are representative of the sort of arms that the gun-grabbers indicate that they would “let” us keep under their idea of compromise.

Barack Obama and Joe Biden would let you fire “two blasts” from a shotgun that most of us can’t afford that is of only marginal use in self defense.

Anti-gun Democrats would likely let you keep your F-class target rifle, hunting guns that aren’t very useful for defense against tyranny, .22LRs that they don’t view as a serious threat, and the muskets that they daftly think are the only firearms the Founders could have envisioned.

For a time, at least.

The anti-liberty left clearly doesn’t want you to have semi-automatic rifles with detachable like the AR-15 or AKM-pattern rifles with standard-capacity 30-round magazines because these are precisely the kind of firearms a modern Minuteman would logically chose. They don’t want you to have semi-automatic pistols with standard magazine capacities that equal that of the government’s own forces for the exact same reason.

The purpose of the national gun control movement has never, at any time, actually been about making the streets safer for citizens and reducing crime. It has always been about usurping the power of the average citizen and transferring that power to the government.

We cited Founding Father Tench Coxe several days ago in a post entitled Yes, Professor, The Founders would have wanted us to have RPGs and assault rifles, who said:

The militia of these free commonwealths, entitled and accustomed to their arms, when compared with any possible army, must be tremendous and irresistible. Who are the militia? Are they not ourselves? Is it feared, then, that we shall turn our arms each man against his own bosom. Congress have no power to disarm the militia. Their swords, and every other terrible implement of the soldier, are the birth-right of an American … the unlimited power of the sword is not in the hands of either the federal or state governments, but, where I trust in God it will ever remain, in the hands of the people.

The Founders of Coxe’s generation felt that making sure the people were armed was so vital to the protection of the Republic that they would use government money to buy service-grade arms for the poor who could not afford them, so that they could serve in the militia.

Handing out arms to those law-abiding citizens of age to be in the militia is what the government should be doing, instead of passing blatantly unconstitutional laws to limit them.

We are Bearing Arms. They are our birthright, and they will not be taken from us.
