Keep beating that dead horse, Mr. President:

President Obama, addressing yet another memorial gathering after a deadly mass shooting, said Sunday evening that he senses “a creeping resignation” in the United States that homicidal lunacy like the Washington Navy Yard massacre “is somehow the new normal.” But he said “it ought to be a shock to us all” and should spur Americans to demand “a common sense” balance between gun rights and gun control.

“We cannot accept this,” Obama said of the Sept. 16 attack that killed a dozen people at the Navy Yard. “As Americans bound in grief and love, we must insist here today there’s nothing normal about innocent men and women being gunned down where they work.”

You know what? He’s right.

There’s “nothing normal” about a President who responds to the second shooting of unarmed military base personnel of his Presidency by insisting that they remain unarmed and defenseless, despite the fact that they are trained precisely to combat threats. Marines in the Navy Yard had the training and the manpower to take down Aaron Alexis early in his rampage, saving numerous lives, but Obama doesn’t trust the Marines to have ammunition.

There’s “nothing normal” about a President that uses the occasion of at least the fourth (or is it the fifth, or sixth?) mass murder conducted during his Presidency by someone with severe mental illness to call for attacking the tool used at the very end of the process, instead of changing mental health laws weakened during previous administrations that put the dangerously mentally ill on the streets. Instead of placing the dangerously mentally ill in mental hospitals until they are well, he would disarm those mothers and fathers would otherwise defend themselves.

There’s “nothing normal” about a President that arms drug cartels and Syrian terrorists aligned with al Qaeda, but who seeks to disarm law-abiding American citizens and leave them at the mercy of violent criminals.

You want “common sense,” Mr. President?
