Arizona woman negligently shot, killed by boyfriend during hug

This is a sad tale of idiocy:

A hug between a woman and her boyfriend turned deadly after police say the man accidentally shot and killed her during that embrace.

It happened Tuesday morning at a home near 86th Avenue and Camelback Road. Police said the 18-year-old man had been hugging his 24-year-old girlfriend. He had a handgun in his waistband.

Police say the man moved to take the weapon out of his waistband because it was bothering his girlfriend. But when he did, the gun went off and the woman was struck by a bullet. She was rushed to the hospital but was later pronounced dead.

Firearms don’t just “go off,” as they are inanimate objects.

Every indication is that this moron wasn’t using a holster. It’s equally clear that he pointed the gun at her while moving it, and “somehow” managed to pull the trigger.

This was not a gun accident, but gun negligence, and the shooter should face charges for actions that cost this young woman her life.

It is legal to open carry a handgun at 18 in Arizona, but it will be interesting to see how the state law judges a handgun thrust in a waistband.

He obvious had the right to carry a weapon, just not the capability of doing so safely.
