In my “past life” at another publication, I probably wrote close to 30 articles on Operation Fast and Furious, and I’m as convinced as I can be that the smuggling of more than 2,500 guns by the ATF to the Sinaloa cartel was an intentional effort by the Department of Justice to frame American gun culture for Mexican cartel violence, in order to justify federal gun control at a time where the nation simply didn’t care about gun control as a national issue.
The Obama Administration has been dodging Fast and Furious for years, and as a result of obstructing the investigation, Attorney General Eric Holder became the first Cabinet official in American history to be held in criminal contempt of Congress; something that would have caused his immediate dismissal by a more ethical President, likely under a cloud of media outrage.
Despite the mainstream media’s lap-dog complacency, and President Obama’s refusal to fire his top attack dog, the courts themselves may hang Holder yet.
Serial abuses of justice by America’s top law enforcement official should be enough to make just about any tinhorn banana republic dictator blush. Yet regarding any embarrassment evidenced by the leader of the free world… not so much. Despite the fact that our attorney general has been indicted for contempt of Congress on both felony and civil charges, has repeatedly lied under oath, and has routinely turned a blind eye to laws that he is duty-bound to enforce, Mr. Holder continues to serve at the behest of his presidential mentor. At least he has so far.
On September 30, U.S. District Court Judge Amy Berman turned down Holder’s Justice Department request to dismiss a House Oversight and Government Reform Committee lawsuit seeking “Operation Fast and Furious” gun-running scandal documents hidden by the self-proclaimed “most transparent administration in history”.
Forbes writer Larry Bell goes on to exhaustively list the (known) lies told by Eric Holder, along with the laws broken and/or ignored, and paints a picture of a man that would be prosecuted by an ethical Justice Department, not running it.
Perhaps one day his efforts to frame law-abiding American gun dealers and gun owners will come back to be his downfall after all.
