I’m more than happy to shoot factory reloads, but I’m always leery of shooting old Warsaw Pact military surplus ammunition and handloads, for the simple reason that I’ve been around when hot-loaded ammo has blown a gun apart.

The Firearms Blog has an example of a catastrophic AR-15 detonation (calling this particular example a mere “kaboom” doesn’t do it justice) that appears to have come from a grossly overcharged hand-load. The gun appears to be a total loss, with the upper and lower receiver both damaged beyond repair.
