"We aren't here to start a war" Alamo open carry starts off as a media disaster

If there was any doubt that long gun open carriers have Anthony Weiner’s public relations skills, lets look at some of the gems that just one news organization have been able to capture so far from the open carry event at the Alamo in San Antonio, Texas.

Army Master Sgt. Christopher Grisham, who has graced the pages of Bearing Arms over the past few days due to his “contempt of cop” trial in Temple, had this bit of brilliance to share as the days events started.

Organizer CJ Grisham, an Army master sergeant who was arrested in Temple for carrying a rifle and whose trial last week ended in a mistrial, asked attendees to keep flags blocking the chambers of their guns.

“If the SWAT team comes down and starts surrounding us with tactical gear, it only takes a minute to pull them out,” Grisham said of the orange pieces of plastic most attendees have stuck in the cheers of their guns. “But that’s not going to happen.”

Asserting that he’s willing to stat a war against cops? Yeah, that’s going to play well in Peoria. Grisham’s bone-headed statement apparently came just after an unnamed organizer made the following comments to open the rally.

The rally started with remarks from organizers. “We aren’t here to start a war today,” one said, addressing a steadily growing crowd. “We are here to show that an armed society is a polite society.”

Really? Was that reminder remotely necessary?

Captain Chemtrails himself, Alex Jones, was invited as a speaker and gave the ranting, shrieking, completely unhinged performance everyone expects from the nation’s top conspiracy theorist.

It’s not even 11:00 AM local time, and the participants and speakers have already given the media several days worth of material to be broadcast in the most negative light possible.

If you really want to win the public relations war that will win you votes, you have to remain ruthlessly on message, calm and reasoned.

This is a train wreck.
