FL lawmakers slaps down Stand your Ground repeal

Unlike Democratic lawmakers pandering to racial demagogues and shifty trial lawyers who are really only after the civil immunity provision within Stand Your Ground law, Florida’s House Republicans were unwilling to be swayed by false claims.

Florida lawmakers late Thursday voted down a bill to repeal the “stand your ground” law linked to the shooting death of teenager Trayvon Martin.

The 11-2 vote in the House Criminal Justice Subcommittee likely kills any repeal effort in the Legislature this year. But a separate Senate measure still pending could revise the self-defense law first passed in 2005.

House and Senate Democrats this summer demanded that lawmakers pass some type of response in the wake of the acquittal of George Zimmerman in Trayvon’s death. The Republican majority agreed to hold the hearing Thursday in response.

The hucksters got their hearing, and their 11-2 repeal defeat because Stand Your Ground had nothing to do with the Zimmerman case.

I hope they’re happy now.
