Grisham open carry retrial begins

Army Master Sgt. Christopher “C.J.” Grisham of Temple, whose case has drawn the attention of gun-rights advocates nationwide, went on trial for a second time Monday in Belton after his first misdemeanor trial ended in a hung jury in October.

A mistrial was declared in October after the six-member deadlocked following two full days of deliberation.

A new jury was seated Monday and testimony was underway.

The trial continues Tuesday.

Grisham was arrested in March 2013 after police received a report about a man who was carrying an assault-style rifle while walking along Airport Road in West Temple.

It seems like a waste of taxpayer dollars to retry someone over a misdemeanor charge. Is this normal?
