Video: Meet John Alden's wheel-lock rifle brought over on Mayflower

One of the treasures of the National Rifle Association’s National Firearms Museum is the “Mayflower Rifle,” a wheel-lock carbine rifle brought from England by Pilgrim John Alden, an original 1620 Plymouth Colony settler and signer of the Mayflower Compact.

The NRA’s John Popp spoke to Phil Scheier, the museum’s senior curator about the gun in this video.

Scheier said the firearm, discovered in a secret compartment in a home owned and habitated by the Alden family for decades, has been traced through colonial court records confirming its link to Alden.
