Gun Control Group Derpin' Carry Texas Scores Again... Twice!

The most effective gun control group in the United States has struck twice again in recent weeks, and they have convinced two more restaurant chains to ban the carry of firearms:

Two more restaurant chains are adding their names to the list of eateries that have adopted a no-guns policy.

Sonic Drive-In and Chili’s Grill & Bar issued statements Friday asking patrons to leave their guns at home.

USA Today reported Saturday that the announcements were prompted by recent demonstrations by open-carry activists who brought rifles and shotguns into Sonic, Chili’s and Chipotle Mexican Grill outlets in Texas.

“We recognize that the open carry of firearms in restaurants creates an uncomfortable atmosphere and is not permitted under many local liquor laws,” Chili’s Dallas-based parent said in statement. “So, we kindly ask that guests refrain from openly carrying firearms into our restaurants and we will continue to follow state and local laws on this issue.”

The Oklahoma-based Sonic said: “We’ve considered the views and desires of our customers and employees that staff the drive-ins across the country. Accordingly, we’re asking that customers refrain from bringing guns onto our patios or into our indoor dining areas. With respect to the storage of guns in vehicles, we ask that our customers continue to honor local laws.”

I’ve lost count of the number of restaurant chains that we we’ve lost the option to carry firearms in nationally because of the actions of self-absorbed long-gun open carriers in Texas taking firearms into business establishments. Their stated goal is either to “normalize” long gun open carry, or to make the open carry of handguns possible.

The reality is that long gun open carry of loaded weapons into business establishments has never been normal in any relatively settled area of the United States in the United States. Even in colonial times you were required discharge your loaded weapon before entering meeting halls and taverns. Such a volley discharge by the Lexington militia at a fortuitous moment caused the British to release Paul Revere after he’d been captured during his night ride to call out the militia on April 19, 1775, prior to the arrival of the column of Regulars.

These open carry groups are also souring the possibility of Texas legalizing handgun open carry. Both the Democrat and Republican candidates for the governorship of Texas have come out in favor of legalizing handgun open carry. The legislature was leaning that direction. So what do these groups do? They parade around in public with long-guns at the low-ready or slung across their backs at a diagonal so that they are constantly muzzle sweeping one another, or are pointing their muzzles at concrete… a decidedly non-safe direction. Their actions are making it less likely that such a law will pass.

Shannon Watts and Moms Demand Action from Mayors in Everytown have not accomplished anything as a group. Every citizen control “victory” they can claim comes as the result of these open carry groups carrying firearms in an unsafe manner into business establishments that simply want to sell their products, and who don’t want to be part of a poorly executed Quixotic campaign.

The results don’t lie.

Business establishment long-gun open carriers are the most effective gun control groups in the United States at this moment.
