The Nov. 21, 1970 raid led by Army Col. Arthur “Bull” Simons was an attempt to rescue American prisoners of war held by North Vietnamese Communists at a camp 23 miles outside of Hanoi. Although, the 70-man Special Forces team quickly secured the compound and killed 100 North Vietnamese soldiers during the 27-minute raid, there were no POW’s there. The prisoners had been moved five month previous because of flooding from a nearby river.
