Save Yourself Survival and Tactical Gear is a small store in the tiny town of Oktaha, Oklahoma, which has a population of just 390 people. The store recently drew international attention with it’s recent proclamation that it was a “Muslim Free Zone,” and would not serve Muslims.

As the local Muslim population in Oktaha is a number at or approaching zero, it’s a safe bet that the stores policy wasn’t going to cost them any business.

It was an obvious public relations stunt designed to draw support from people who dislike Muslims by outraging Muslims. Both groups took the bait hook, line, and sinker.

As Muslims around the world issued easily-predictable threats, a small cadre of would-be defenders showed up at Save Yourself, much to the chagrin of the local sheriff. After watching the would-be guards, Muskogee County Sheriff Charles Pearson compared their gun safety to be on par with that of “the Clampetts,” a reference to the fictional family starring in the 1960s culture-clash sitcom, The Beverly Hillbillies.

You can guess what happened next:

After inevitable uproar, the store’s supporters took arms and stood outside to prevent a potential attack.

But one man at Save Yourself could not save himself from himself. His Colt .45 revolver fell out of his holster and discharged, hitting him in the wrist, the Tulsa World reported.

The man, who hasn’t been identified, did not suffer a life-threatening injury, police said.

The man has now been identified as a 57-year-old, but I won’t reprint his name and cause him further embarrassment. He was indeed carrying an aged single-action pistol to “defend” the store, in a holster that wasn’t designed to keep it secure. When he bent over to pick something up, the gun fell out out of the holster.

Since he didn’t have enough sense to carry the gun with “five beans in the wheel” and had the hammer resting on a live cartridge instead of an empty chamber (a safety practice for this kind of firearm dating back more than a century), he managed to shoot himself.

He’s now the butt of left-wing media outlets who are using this incident to gleefully report to their readers that gun owners are the dangerous rubes that they’ve always insisted we were.

Folks, this is the second time we’ve reported on a poorly trained and/or poorly equipped volunteer having a negligent discharge in recent weeks as they “stood guard.”

We’ve also seen far too many instances of incompetence, and people who just want to be seen with weapons that lack useful things, like sights.

According to Muskogee County Sheriff Charles Pearson, the volunteers milling around of Save Yourself constantly touched the triggers of their guns and had no business being around firearms.

You have a right to bear arms, my fellow Americans, but you also have a moral responsibility to bear those arms competently.
