Deputy Stops School Shooting In Michigan

Authorities were tipped Tuesday night that a group of people were going to cause trouble at a high school basketball. They stopped the group from getting inside the school, and then a police officer followed the group to a school parking lot, where things got sporty.

Four people were shot outside Muskegon Heights High School on Tuesday night, one of them by a sheriff’s deputy who opened fire on an apparent shooter, police say.

Interim Muskegon Heights Police Chief Dr. Joseph E. Thomas, Jr. said that two females and two males were shot. Two of the victims were students at Muskegon Heights High School, according to a statement from Superintendent Alena Zachery-Ross.

Everyone who was shot was taken to an area hospital and have since been released.

Thomas said the suspected shooter is a man from the Grand Rapids area, and that police believe he was the sole shooter. The Muskegon County Prosecutor’s Office told 24 Hour News 8 they expect a warrant to be issued sometime Wednesday afternoon, although it remains a “very active investigation.”

Police are trying to find three other men who were with the alleged shooter at one point in the evening.

There are a lot more questions than answers at this point, but it appears that the suspect shot two females and a male, and was then confronted by a deputy. The suspect then turned his gun towards the deputy, who put the suspect down.

The females and males suffered relatively minor injures and were released. The suspect was treated for his wounds and was taken to jail. At this time charges have not been field against the shooter, but they are expected later today.
