The Georgia Senate passed HB 859, the campus carry bill, by a vote of 37-17. The bill will allow legal concealed carry permit holders to possess firearms on all public colleges in Georgia.

The vote followed an tempestuous two-hour floor debate over the constitutionality, common sense and fears of allowing students and faculty members to carry concealed guns on campus.

The bill now heads to the desk of Gov. Nathan Deal, who has voiced support for the bill in the past. If signed into law, Georgia would become the ninth state to allow campus carry.
