Two people were shot in a shopping area in Burnsville over the noon hour Monday, and a suspect is in custody, a city official said.

The gunfire occurred about 12:15 p.m. at the Dollar Tree discount store in the 14000 block of Aldrich Avenue S., said city spokesman Marty Doll.

Doll said a suspect was quickly arrested.

Still uncertain, Doll said, was whether the shots were fired inside the store or outside.

There is no further information about the victims, including their conditions.

Police dispatch audio traffic revealed that one person was shot in the torso and another in the head.

The suspect was apprehended after being pulled over in a vehicle, scanner traffic noted.

WCCO has issued a report clarifying that the shooting happened inside the store.

It is not known how many shots were fired before the shooter fled the store, and we don’t know if this was an armed robbery, a targeted shooting, or a random shooting.

We’ll update this story as it develops.
