The National Shooting Sports Foundation (NSSF) announced a partnership with Cabela’s today to promote Project Childsafe, an initiative to safely store firearms out of the reach of children.
It is just the latest of many partnerships and initiatives by supporters of gun rights to promote the safe usage and storage of firearms.
The National Rifle Association (NRA), constantly abused by the mainstream media, is the largest firearms safety organization in the world, certifying instructors and providing curriculum to teach not just everyday citizens, but also law enforcement. In the past 50 years, they’ve certified over 55,000 law enforcement trainers, 11,000 of which are currently active. In addition to championing safe usage and storage of firearms, they’ve also created and championed the Eddie Eagle program to teach children not to touch firearms.
The Civilian Marksmanship Program (CMP), Safari Club International, Appleseed Project, and dozens of state and regional organizations (often in partnership with law enforcement and government departments of natural resources) also teach safe firearms operation and/or storage to people of all ages, around the nation.
What have any of the various gun prohibitionist groups in this nation done to directly promote gun safety?
What gun safety programs are offered by the Coalition to Stop Gun Violence? Ceaselessly screaming that gun owners are “insurrectionists” doesn’t count.
How many trigger locks have Sarah Brady (Brady Foundation) or Shannon Watts (Moms Demand Action) handed out? I suspect I can hold all of them in one hand.
What sort of safe gun-handling classes are offered by Mayors Against Illegal Guns (MAIG), and where does the Violence Policy Center teach children to practice non-violence?
I’ll believe these anti-gun extremists actually care about stopping gun violence when they actually put up money to create educational campaigns.
To date, it seems unlikely that they can claim to have saved a single life, and it seems unlikely that they ever will.
