Someone get this legislator a better alibi:

A Kentucky state representative accidentally fired her semi-automatic handgun Tuesday night in the Capitol annex office.

That incident happened just before the State of the State address delivered by Governor Steve Beshear.

Representative Leslie Combs (D- Pikeville) says she was unloading a Ruger LCP .380 according to safety procedure when it accidentally fired.  The bullet struck the floor and ricocheted into a bookcase.

Representative Jeff Greer was in the room at the time of the incident but was not hurt.

When asked by reporters Wednesday to see where the gun was discharged, Combs declined and said she was putting the gun away because, “I don’t want to use it anymore.”

“I thought it was totally clear,” Combs said. “I am a gun owner. It happens.”

It doesn’t “just happen,” Rep. Combs. Most gun owners are bright enough to grasp that removing the magazine from a firearm does not remove the bullet that is already in the chamber, and most gun owners are smart enough not to pull the trigger of a firearm that they haven’t chamber-checked.

A typical politician, Combs is refusing to accept personal responsibility, and is blaming the gun instead of her own negligence. She claims she was “unloading a Ruger LCP .380 according to safety procedure,” but in no part of the instructions does it say pull the trigger.

Quite clearly, Combs wasn’t following any part of a safety procedure simple enough for elementary school children to grasp, and she instead chose to pull the trigger with a round in the chamber, despite explicit warnings.

Combs now says that she will instead carry a revolver instead of the LCP.

Because the gun was the problem.
