The absurd “school shooting” claims of Everytown/Moms Demand Action first made in June have been thoroughly debunked as cheap propaganda by the majority of the media.

Outlets that hammered the Michael Bloomberg-bankrolled “research” included left-leaning CNN and Politifact, and right-leaning The Daily Caller and National Review, just to scratch the surface of a long list of news organizations that took the group to task for what were essentially lies.

Everyone in the news business felt that the deception pushed by the group was deplorable… except, apparently, USA Today.

Yesterday USA Today’s transportation reporter Larry Copeland uncritically repeated these same debunked lies of Everytown/Moms Demand Action yet again.

In the two years since a gunman killed 20 children and six teachers at Sandy Hook Elementary School in Newtown, Conn., there have been at least 95 school shootings in the USA, including 23 in which at least one person was killed.

That’s according to two groups that will release a new report Tuesday on school shootings in Washington, D.C., and issue a call for political leaders to take action to prevent gun violence.

The two groups, Everytown for Gun Safety, which calls itself the nation’s largest gun violence prevention organization, and an affiliated group, Moms Demand Action for Gun Sense in America, tracked news reports for every instance of a firearm discharged inside a school building or on school or campus grounds.

Copeland and his editors are apparently too lazy, incompetent, and/or corrupt to note that this regurgitated data is still mostly junk.

Politifact crunched the numbers the first time Everytown released their “report” in June using this methodology when the group was claiming 74 school shootings, and this is what they found.

Incidents such as Sandy Hook or Columbine in which the shooter intended to commit mass murder: 10 instances

• Incidents related to criminal activity (such as drug dealing or robbery), or personal altercations: 39 instances

• Incidents unconnected to members of school community and/or that took place outside school hours: 16 instances

• Suicides: 6 instances

• Accidental discharges: 3 instances

Criminal activity on the fringes of school campus grounds including drug deals and robberies are the leading incident reported, accounting for almost 53% of Everytown’s “school shootings.”

Just 13.5% of Everytown’s “school schootings” are events where the shooter intended to commit mass murder.

That means 86.5% of Everytown’s “research” is junk.

Everytown’s “school shooting” data has been widely known as being propaganda—not valid research—since June.

We’re left to question whether USA Today’s writers and editors are merely that bad at doing the basic fact-checking required of even high-school journalism, or if they are, as a left-leaning Gannett publication, simply so politically compromised that they are willingly deceiving their readers in order to push an anti-gun agenda.

No matter what their lame excuse may be, USA Today’s audience is left to wonder what else the company so easily regurgitates without fact-checking.

Instead of nearly the 100 school shootings reported by Everytown, the actually number of attempted mass shootings in schools since Sandy Hook is around a dozen, while the number of successful mass shootings on school properties is in the single digits.

Everytown lies. It’s what Michael Bloomberg pays them to do.

But why does USA Today feel that they have the right to regurgitate these lies to their readers?

This is an abuse of trust.

No wonder the American people have such a low level of respect for journalists.
