The Hill is reporting that Barack Obama has directed his Department of Justice to prepare an final executive-level attack on the Second Amendment during the waning years of his failed presidency:
The Justice Department plans to move forward this year with more than a dozen new gun-related regulations, according to list of rules the agency has proposed to enact before the end of the Obama administration.
The regulations range from new restrictions on high-powered pistols to gun storage requirements. Chief among them is a renewed effort to keep guns out of the hands of people who are mentally unstable or have been convicted of domestic abuse.
Gun safety advocates have been calling for such reforms since the Sandy Hook school shooting nearly three years ago in Newtown, Conn. They say keeping guns away from dangerous people is of primary importance.
While short on specifics, the article notes that the Obama Admin will be targeting “high-powered pistols.” This must be interpreted as an attempt to ban magazine-fed rifle-caliber pistols, such as AR-15 and AKM-based pistols. These same firearms were used as an excuse for attempts to ban 5.56 NATO M855 rifle ammunition earlier this year. The Administration will also presumable attempt to ban arm braces attached to these pistols designed to make one-handed firing more easy for the physically disabled.
We’re unsure of precisely how the anti-gun Obama Administration is going to address gun storage requirements, or if they even have the legal authority to make requirements. This will bear watching.
The most insidious avenues of attack on gun ownership are through the trojan horse regulations to “keep guns out of the hands of people who are mentally unstable or have been convicted of domestic abuse.” Both of these avenues of attack sound reasonable to many people who simply don’t pay attention to the issues and would never look at the details of what the regulations are proposing. Unfortunately, like so much done by this corrupt administration, it’s the details that matter.
While none of us want the criminally insane to be armed, the Obama Administration is going to do everything they can to take firearms away from people who are not a threat by defining “mentally unstable” to cast as wide of a net as possible. They aren’t just going after those with diagnoses of homicidal or suicidal thoughts, but would love to deny gun rights to those who seek for treatment of non-violent mental health concerns. Targets for these sweeping denials are thought to be people with chronic but relatively minor problems such as veterans with PTS and those diagnosed with minor depression. They are also thought to be targeting people with one-time mental health issues years or decades old, such as someone needed to be temporarily treated after being a victim of a tragic accident, violent crime, sudden loss of a loved one, or similar overwhelming tragedy.
Likewise, no one wants serial abusers (male or female) to be allowed to follow the deadly pattern of escalating abuse that ends with serious injury or death, but Obama isn’t attempting to deny firearms to these people, is he? Instead of going after serial abusers, Obama is attempting to target people with one-time, misdemeanor convictions on their records, and would likely try to follow California’s “thought crime”-based gun violence restraining orders, where you can be stripped of your Second Amendment rights without a conviction based merely on hearsay, without even having a chance to rebut your accusers in front of a judge.
The clean intent of the Obama Administration is to find a way to disarm as much of the citizenry as possible, by hook or by crook. It doesn’t matter to the Obama or the gun confiscation if people are innocent of these accusations. It doesn’t matter if these people are law-abiding citizens. It doesn’t matter that they aren’t a threat to anyone.
Obama is using the fig leaf of “mental instability” and “domestic violence” to attack the Constitution itself.
Considering the lawlessness of this failed President, none of us should be surprised.
