President Barack Obama took several minutes out of his busy fund-raising schedule today to use the massacre of nine people in a Charleston, SC church to push for gun control:
Obama called Emanuel African Methodist Episcopal Church “more than a church,” noting that the church was founded by African-Americans who were seeking liberty and recalling how the church was once burned to the ground because its worshippers worked to end slavery.
“This is a sacred place in the history of Charleston and in the history of America,” he said.
The president then spoke more broadly about the mass shootings that have plagued the nation in recent history.
“I’ve had to make statements like this too many times,” he said. “Communities like this have had to endure tragedies like this too many times. We don’t have all the facts, but we do know that once again, innocent people were killed, in part, because someone who wanted to inflict harm had no trouble getting their hands on a gun.”
While Obama noted that now is a time for mourning and healing, he said that America must eventually “reckon with the fact that this type of mass violence does not happen in other advanced countries.”
Obama then immediately left for Los Angeles on Air Force One, to participate in four political fundraisers and play several rounds of golf.
As is often the case, Obama packed a lot of deception in a very short amount of time.
Mass shootings are not plaguing the nation, and the politically-compromised FBi report that Obama apparently used to make that claim has been debunked.
Sadly, the President had the same information that we did that the murderer* was arrested on felony drug charges in March, and that he was classified as a “prohibited person” barred from legally possessing any kind of firearm. Despite this, the murderer’s father illegally gave him a .45-caliber pistol one month later in April as a birthday present, strongly suggesting that he, too, should be facing felony charges.
Obama knew this… and still he chose to deceive the American people.
Likewise, Obama’s assertion that “this type of mass violence does not happen in other advanced countries” was an intentional and obvious lie which numerous journalists have already pounced upon.
Re: Obama’s comment on US gun-attack exceptionalism, fatal hate-crime gun attack took place in France a few months ago. Plus, Norway, etc.

Thanks to South Carolina’s gun laws which heavily restrict concealed carry at churches, Emanuel AME Zion Church was effectively a “gun free zone” at the time of the attack.
92% of all mass killings in the United States occur in such locations.
That, of course, is a fact that President Obama will never admit.
*Bearing Arms does not publish the names of mass killers as a general rule; the suspect’s name in this case was only publicized while he was the subject of a multi-state manhunt. Now that he is captured, we will not publish his name again.
