President Barack Obama, who has recently championed the idea of “Australian-style” forced gun confiscation, is once more shamelessly lying about the reality of violent crime in the United States in order to strip American citizens of their natural human right to armed self-defense.

President Obama will tell police chiefs Tuesday that enacting more gun laws would save more police officers’ lives.

“It’s time to be honest — fewer gun safety laws don’t mean more freedom, they mean more fallen officers,” Mr. Obama will say at the gathering in Chicago, according to the White House. “They mean more grieving families, and more Americans terrified that they or their loved ones could be next.”

Mr. Obama will say, “I’m going to keep calling on the folks in Congress to change the way they deal with gun safety — and if they don’t, I’m going to keep calling on Americans to change the folks in Congress until they get this right.”

The president and Attorney General Loretta Lynch will speak to the annual conference of the International Association of Chiefs of Police, where Mr. Obama is expected to push for national laws aimed eliminating disparities in gun regulations in different states.

In excerpts of the speech released by the White House, the president will say the failure of the U.S. to address gun violence is “a travesty.”

“Thirty-two cops have been shot and killed this year,” he’ll say. “At least a dozen children have been shot and killed this month. About 400,000 Americans have been shot and killed by guns since 9/11. In contrast, since 9/11, fewer than 100 Americans have been murdered by terrorists on American soil. 400,000. That’s like losing the entire population of Cleveland or Minneapolis over the past 14 years.”

Obama pushes raw numbers… but refuses to provide the factual context that utterly wrecks his argument.

If the President was (capable of) being honest, he’d note that while the number of guns in the United States has roughly doubled during his Presidency, and the absolute number of gun owners and lawful concealed carriers is the highest it has ever been, the United States is safer now that it has been in two generations.

In 1970, there were about 4 violent crimes per 1,000 Americans. In 2014, there were 3.75 violent crimes per 1,000 Americans. America is essentially as safe today as when VW Beetles ruled the road and Simon and Garfunkel ruled the radio.

Surprised? If you are under 40 years old, you’ve never lived in a safer country than America is today.

It doesn’t make sense, does it?

President Obama, Hillary Clinton, and their anti-liberty allies keep shrieking about a “gun violence epidemic” that simply does not exist.

Violent crime of all kinds is on a multi-decade decline.

Crime committed with firearms is on a multi-decade decline.

Crimes commit with “assault rifles” are so low that the FBI doesn’t even track them, and make up some fractional percentage of just 285 rifle-related homicides last year in a nation of 320 million people.

Firearms accidents and accidental deaths are likewise on a steady multi-decade decline.

And—especially relevant considering Obama’s choice of venue for his speech—the number of officers killed in the line of duty is not just on a long-term decline that started in the early 1970s, but have plummeted 38% from last year.

Barack Obama is blatantly fabricating a non-existent crisis in order to infringe upon our most basic and cherished rights.
